The Outreach Coordinators are responsible for educating and spreading awareness to people at the race about opportunities to help those who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Meet John and Jessica Gibbens, our Outreach Coordinators. John and Jessica became parents to their precious boy, Grant, in November of 2015. In less than one year, their world was crushed as they were told their baby boy had leukemia. While worrying about bills and their jobs, someone reached out to them about the Ben Strong 5K. Their family soon became the 2017 recipient. After knowing how much it helped their family financially and emotionally, they knew they needed to stay involved and help as many families as possible.
Standing at the Be the Match tent is near to their hearts since their son underwent a bone marrow transplant in July. They were blessed to have a perfect sibling match, but if they didn’t, they would have been depending on this registry. This registry is amazing and they want to encourage as many people possible to become a member of the registry and help fight this horrible disease.
Be the Match is a world wide registry used to find a perfectly matched marrow or cord blood for a life-saving transplant for blood diseases. They help support families and clinicians through the transplant process. They also help raise funds to make sure every patient receives the life-saving transplant that they need.
